SMOPyC
16-20 February 2000 Zaragoza, Spain

14 British companies exhibited at SMOPYC in the FMCEC British Group with SESA (Support for Exhibitions & Seminars Abroad) grant aid - taking over 1,100 sqm of inside and outside space.

The FMCEC ran a British Group Information Centre, which provided office facilities, refreshments and a meeting point for Group members. The FMCEC interactive CD-ROM, Business Tracker III was distributed to visitors to the Information Centre, which also provided an opportunity for a further 7 British companies to display literature and graphics.

FMCEC staff - Joanna and Rob Oliver - took enquiries and trade leads from visitors. All companies in the display package were able to use the stand as a hospitality base to meet potential customers.

SMOPYC - the 11th international Show of Public Works, Construction and Mining Machinery occupied the whole of the Feria de Zaragoza, located about 5 miles of the city centre. An FMCEC discount of 30% on published space rates was negotiated on behalf of British Exhibitors.

Whilst primarily a Spanish show, over 1,200 exhibitors were present from 33 countries. The 60,000 visitors were predominantly Spanish but a few other nationalities attended.

John Hankin, the Vice Consul at the Consulate General in Barcelona worked closely with the FMCEC to promote the Group. The British Embassy organised a cocktail reception (cohosted by the FMCEC) at the Gran Hotel, Zaragoza. Over 70 guests met with senior representatives of Spanish manufacturers, contractors and distributors.

CONEXPO
19-23 March 2002 Las Vegas, USA

Yes, I know we haven't even had Intermat or Bauma yet, but the closing date for initial registration at Conexpo 2002 is THIS AUGUST! The FMCEC will again bid for British Trade International (BTI) SESA grant support for Conexpo.

Conexpo is North America's premiere construction exhibition. 1999 showed that the show is no longer just for the USA domestic market, but is attracting a high number of visitors from Central and South America as well as Canada. It was attended by over 135,000 visitors and attracted nearly 2,300 exhibitors from around the world.

In 2002 the IFPE (International Fluid Power Exposition) will be run concurrently with Conexpo in Las Vegas for the first time. IFPE showcases the best of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical power transmission components, systems and controls. The FMCEC will also bid for SESA grant support for IFPE, which would allow exhibitors to chose between these two prestigious shows.

If you have exhibited at Conexpo before, or are looking to break into the American market and wish to exhibit for the first time, please register your interest with Joanna Oliver before 2 August 2000.

CTC China
8 -11 November 2000 Beijng, China

For the first time the FMCEC has been awarded BTI SESA support for an exhibition in China. CTC (Construction Technology China) is endorsed by the Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE) and is held annually and moves between Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. CTC is held in tandem with Building China and Security China to cover a wide spectrum of construction and building sectors. In addition to the British Pavilion at CTC 2000 there are national pavilions from Germany, Italy and Finland and individual exhibitors from the USA, Spain and Australia. CTC draws its visitors predominantly from China and is open to trade visitors only.

Large scale infrastructure projects to be completed by 2010 include: the Three Gorges dam, extension of coal production in Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia, the Nanchang-Kunming railway, the southern Xinjiang railway, the Beijing-Shanghai rapid transit railway, construction of a number of North South and East West major highways, the improvement and construction of large ports, and the construction of new airports in provincial capitals.

The British Group will be supported by the FMCEC who will run a British
Group Information Centre at the show. Qualifying exhibitors will receive a SESA grant of up to £2,300 plus a supplementary grant for China of £1,200 - making CTC China an affordable gateway into the huge Chinese market.

Costs of exhibiting in China can be high, but with the FMCEC's grantaided package this is not the case. Shell scheme costs after grant can be as little at £154 (for a 9 sqm stand). Limited outside space is also available.

Booking deadline - 26 June 2000
