PROMOTING
PERFORMANCE
The CEA’s Promoting Performance
programme consists of four modules:
- Manufacturing Excellence
- aims to help suppliers and SMEs improve their quality, cost and
delivery performances and is supported and part funded by the DTI.
The project was inspired by the automotive industry’s Industry
Forum, which has developed a package of initiatives starting with
their MasterClass programme - which involves master engineers
working with companies to "seek and destroy"
inefficiencies and waste.
- Regulatory Awareness
- is a briefing and communications programme to address the
challenge of gaps in suppliers’ knowledge on regulatory issues.
- Primed for Export
- is a service, primarily for smaller companies, to help them punch
above their weight in overseas markets.
- Export Success
- is concerned with the development of existing overseas promotions,
including our SESA (Support for Exhibitions and Seminars Abroad)
supported exhibitions programme.

MANUFACTURING
EXCELLENCE
The
initial Manufacturing Excellence pilot project is now complete. The
next stage, approved by the CEA’s Management Council, is to apply
for a 50% overall grant from the DTI over three years for a £2.25
million project. Plans for the project include the continuation of
subsidised MasterClasses and related services from the SMMT Industry
Forum, a benchmarking study, a personnel development programme
involving students, a marketing project, working with Regional Forums
and a supply chain project.
PRIMED
FOR EXPORT
The
CEA is also applying to the DTI for a further £35k to continue the
Primed for Export project for a second year. Elements include the
continuation of the programme of visits to SMEs and new exporters, a
strategic ‘joined up’ approach to developing exporting in priority
markets, the development of standard CEA documents such as conditions
of sale, market research, the investigation of joint marketing
opportunities and the development of an in-house resource library.
