BAUCON ASIA
20-23 November 2001 : Singapore

Baucon Asia will provide an excellent opportunity for British companies to return to the Asia Pacific region after the 97/98 recession. With an annual growth rate of 9.9% in 2000, Singapore has regained its title of the leading Asian Tiger. In 2001 the construction sector is forecast to grow by 22% in Indonesia, 17% in the Philippines, 12% in South Korea, 6% in Singapore and 10 % in Thailand.

Baucon Asia 2001 will be the third time the CEA has taken a SESA sponsored group to Singapore. The exhibition provides an ideal opportunity for exhibitors to meet visitors from the ASEAN and Asia Pacific regions. It is organised jointly by CEMS and Messe Munchen - the Bauma people.

Baucon Asia features construction equipment, machinery and tools, lifting and materials handling equipment, construction IT and e-business as well as building products and equipment. Around 10,000 trade visitors from 25 countries attended the 1999 show, of which 85% were decision-makers.

Space is still available - but is selling fast - contact Sharna or Joanna now for details. Funding of up to £2,300 is available for eligible companies - SESA grant applications close 20 August.

ANKOMAK POSTPONED
(Istanbul, Turkey)

It has been announced by the organisers that the Ankomak exhibition, which should have been held in Istanbul (5-10 June 2001), has been postponed due the present economic situation in Turkey. The exhibition has been re-scheduled to take place between 16-21 April 2002. As this follows on so closely from Conexpo it is not anticipated that the CEA will apply for SESA support for Turkey in 2002.

18-22 September 2001 : Sao Paulo, Brazil

There has been a terrific response to the M&T Expo Construction and Mining Show. To date 17 companies have confirmed their stands in the British Pavilion in both the inside and outside areas - taking advantage of the generous CEA space discounts and up to £3,500 of SESA grant. As well as the British participation other national pavilions include: the USA, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. As we go to print limited space is still available - but the deadline for SESA grant application is 20 July. The sea freight deadline is 17 July - so if you are interested in exhibiting contact Sharna or Joanna NOW!

CONEXPO-CON/AGG
& IFPE
19-23 March 2002 :
Las Vegas, USA

Conexpo-Con/Agg will be the largest construction equipment exhibition in the world in 2002.
For the first time it will held in conjunction with IFPE - the International Fluid Power Exposition - making the shows even more attractive to visitors from all over the world. Conexpo 1999 saw a large increase in visitors from South and Central America.

The official deadline for space applications has long passed. However, the CEA is holding inside and outside space for both shows. If you have not already applied - act NOW. SESA grant funding of up to £2,300 is available to eligible companies who have not exhibited in the USA with grant more than four times in the past ten years.

2-8 April 2001 :
Munich, Germany

The CEA were, once again, the Trade Partners UK SESA sponsors of the British Group at Bauma. 68 British companies exhibited with SESA grant aid and a further 46 without grants. 20 companies displayed literature and graphics in the CEA British Information Centre - which also provided office facilities, Internet access, interpreters, refreshments and a much enjoyed electronic foot massager! CEA staff took enquiries and trade leads from visitors.

The British participation was divided between 28 companies exhibiting in the highly visible British Pavilion in Hall A5 and companies exhibiting in product specific areas. As always space was very hard to come by - with the exhibition being sold out more than 12 months before the opening. Over 390,000 visitors attended the show from 152 countries. Visitors from six continents had visited the British Group Information Centre by the end of day one.

Bauma continues to fulfil its billing as the World's Fair for Construction Equipment. The importance of attending and in early booking cannot be overly stressed. Bauma's future as the premier construction equipment show looks assured. The competent organisation by Messe Munchen continues to make Bauma a very attractive show at which to exhibit.

IN THE LEBANON

Many CEA members took advantage of free literature display at the Project Lebanon exhibition in Beirut (15-19 May 2001). The CEA information stand was part of a British Group sponsored by the Construction Products Association. In addition to members' brochures, the CEA also distributed copies of Business Tracker and Newsline. Project Lebanon 2001 - a major trade fair for the building and construction industry in the Middle East - attracted over 525 exhibitors from over 30 countries.

SED ….. IN SUNSHINE AND IN RAIN
16-19 May 2001 : Milton Keynes, UK

For the first time the CEA exhibited at SED. The theme "It's a jungle out there and CEA can help you through it" was carried through into the stand design (a jungle clearing), the invitations and the cocktails, which were served throughout the show. The purpose of exhibiting was to inform visitors and exhibitors of the CEA's services, to recruit new members and to reinforce the new name and branding of the CEA (from FMCEC). Sharna and Joanna designed and built the stand and were runners up in the "best presented stand by new exhibitors" award at the exhibitors reception - which was won by CEA member, Lister Petter.

The first day saw a number of serious membership enquiries. Thursday dawned cold, windy and wet with sleet in the air. Even though the CEA's stand was in the Pavilion - it was freezing. Cocktails turned into mugs of steaming Jungle Coffee with a little something in it to warm up the visitors!

SED staff did an excellent job of keeping the showground running despite the torrential rain and deep mud. We are thinking of starting an "I survived Thursday at SED 2001" club - any takers?

Friday and Saturday were dry and warmer and visitor levels improved. Although Saturday was a family day and children were much in evidence they were not stripping the stand of anything that was not tied down - a refreshing change from most overseas exhibitions!
