MEXICO

Pam Hyde visited Mexico in October to research the construction equipment market.

Pam’s trip was sponsored by Trade Partners UK. The British Embassy in Mexico City and the Trade Consulate in Monterrey organised a full programme including visits to large and small contractors, distributors, project managers, housing companies and the associations for distributors and contractors.

The full report contains summaries of the interviews and the latest information on:

  • Active distributors, ie who is handling what construction equipment product

  • Civil engineering and infrastructure projects planned and tender notice information

  • Detailed report on the mineral sources/extractive industries

  • Key contacts

  • Information on and copies of construction equipment related trade publications

  • List of construction equipment rental companies

  • List of contractors and indigenous contractors

  • Trade promotion opportunities

  • Major end users

The report and various publications are available on loan from the FMCEC offices.

OPPORTUNITIES IN TURKEY

Export Marketing Group and Council members have been privy to specific research on opportunities for UK construction equipment and component suppliers which was commissioned over a year ago by the DTI. The report, by IBS Research & Consultancy, has recently been completed and analyses the following sectors in depth:

  • Cranes, lifting equipment and hoists

  • Concrete pumps and plant

  • Drilling and tunnelling equipment

  • Earthmoving equipment

  • Engines and transmissions

  • Materials preparation

  • Power engines

  • City cleansing equipment

The market size and growth, competition, technology, saturation levels and opportunities for UK manufacturers are examined for each sector and there is a useful overview on the industry in Turkey. The commissioning of this report and the sponsorship of Pam Hyde’s visit in November 1998 confirm the conviction of Trade Partners UK that FMCEC members must actively investigate opportunities in the Turkish market.

There is also an invaluable report on the Construction Market in Turkey written in October 2000 by the Commercial Office, British Consulate-General, Istanbul. It contains up to date information on the construction market, projects underway and planned, a list of useful contacts and additional useful Web Sites. A copy of the opportunity analysis on the Construction Sector as a whole, completed in November 1999, and accompanying Powerpoint presentation, are also available.

CHINA

Pam Hyde met a delegation of senior officials from Liaoning Province, together with representatives of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in October. A report on business opportunities in Liaoning has been made available to Export Marketing Group and Council members. A CD Rom regarding the Province is available on lone from the FMCEC offices.
